Allergic reactions to leather bands
Oct 17, 2004,08:20 AM
I have owned a PP5070 for a couple of years and about 3 months ago i noticed a rash appearing on my wrist where the leather band touches the skin.
It is specially bad at the clasp.
I own several watches from different brands so i wanted to rule out all possibilities and decided to test with the different watches to see if the reaction would be the same.Only 2 stick out,the 5070 and a Panerai.
So i cleaned the bands with some alcohol to make sure there is no residue and wore the watches again with the same result.Nasty rash.
I have come to the conclusion that i am allergic to the bands on the Patek an the Panerai.
I then called Patek and asked if there is a possibility of purchasing a hypoallergenic band from them.Their reply:
Patek goes to great length to study human anatomy and determine reactions caused by the different dyes used in their bands with the human skin.It is therefore very unlikely their bands would cause an allergic reaction.I am doing something wrong.
Well i am not entirely stupid,i am in the health field and fully aware of what might cause rashes and different reactions.Putting aside Pateks high and mighty approach,i am allergic to their leather band and need a fix.
Any suggestions???
Thanks

I have a question

Hello : You said you have owned the 5070 for 3 yrs, so I assume this didn't happen in the beginning. This probably is the case with your Panerai. I think this could be the usage of the strap in your daily activity that changes its element - making your sk...

Hi Carson to answer your question,i do not work with chemicals so that possibility is ruled out.I have narrowed it down to 2 watches, the Patek and Panerai. For some reason IWC and Ulysse bands are OK.I don't think i am imagining things. For the past week i...
Try Performance straps by Hirsch
By: Nigel24 : April 27th, 2024-18:16
Dear Aram I have had similar issues and I now use on various watches a Hirsch performance strap like the “Paul” or “Ian” model as they do smart leather and gator straps but which are waterproof totally and have a rubber back that is well designed to avoid...
